How Do I Protect a Child?

Listing a minor in an adult protective order does not provide the same protection as obtaining a separate protective order for the child. A cohabitant or any party interested in a minor should petition for a separate Protective Order on behalf of the minor.

A minor child is a person under the age of 18 who has not reached majority by marriage.

If you (or Respondent) are the parents of the minor, including stepparent or adoptive parent, then you should file for the Protective Order in the District Court.

If you are not the parent of the minor, then you should file for the Protective Order in the Juvenile Court.
